Mistakes happen, and the workplace is no exception. However, when you make a mistake at work your apology will need to look a little bit different than if you are apologizing to a friend. Here are a few quick tips on how to apologize for a mistake while at work:

Own up to it: When apologizing, don’t try to make excuses. Own up to your mistake and try to avoid phrases such as “but” or “if.”

Don’t Overdo It: Your apology should be sincere, but should be equal to the magnitude of the mistake.

Offer up a Solution: After you have apologized, explain how you will fix the problem and make it right.
